Feet first: Our new hairpin leg floor protectors
Our hairpin legs have an exciting new feet-ure! (Sorry. The dad jokes will stop now.)
Introducing our new hairpin leg floor protectors. These colourful rubber feet slip neatly on the bottom of your hairpin legs – ideal to protect delicate floors, and for extra grip on slippery surfaces.
WHY USE HAIRPIN LEG FLOOR PROTECTORS?
We came up with the idea for the feet when Adam made a hairpin leg table for his house, and wanted to place it on his oak wood floor.
Quite precious (cough, anal) about his new floor, he didn’t want the metal edge to mark the wood.
The challenge was set. We wanted to design a protective solution that was friendly to floors, fitted easily on both 2 and 3 rod hairpin legs, and didn't interfere with the midcentury modern aesthetic.
HOW WE DID IT
We made several pro-toe-types (LOL…sorry…) and 3D-printed designs. Once we were happy, we vacuum casted in a number of different materials to find the best one for the job.
Our goals were met when we found a type of rubber that gave the feet a great mix of durability and strength, but was still gentle on delicate floors.
After a few small tweaks and iterations, we moved forward to full production tooling and had our result!
